AAPAC is thrilled to be announcing the planned programming for this year's Black History Month!! The 2022 Fairmont AAPAC Black History Month STEM Career Week is a multi-day hybrid virtual and in-person program, in observation of Black History Month, intended to highlight and celebrate the successes of black professionals in our local community. One of the goals of this event is to expose students at Fairmont Elementary School to the breadth of career paths, and to encourage and inspire them to consider pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields. This will be an unique opportunity for students to hear anecdotes, get advice, and gain perspectives about career options, opportunities, challenges and potential barriers, and keys to success from local African American residents working in STEM careers. This program is open to WCCUSD Fairmont students at all grade levels. This year, we are excited to have guests who will be talking about the following STEM professions: structural engineering, mechanical engineering, astrophysics and astronomy, architecture, industrial engineering, computers and systems engineering. For more info about the program and our guest speakers, please visit the event page.

We are pleased to be officially launching the AAPAC website to the Fairmont Elementary School (ES) Community. This site aims to provide general information about the WUCCUSD Fairmont ES African American Parent Advisory Council (AAPAC) mission, goals, council, as well as helpful resources and announcements to the parents and families within the Fairmont ES community.
We hope that our group will be able to give you and your family opportunities to expand your awareness of issues that impact us, and thoughts on how to mitigate barriers to the growth and advancement of your child's education. Some of the topics we hope to discuss and address include ethnic and racial diversity, inclusion, implicit bias, barriers to growth and opportunities, and opportunities for inspiration or empowerment. Thank you again for visiting this site. We welcome your suggestions on initiatives, future events and activities and would love your feedback. Our team looks forward to hearing from you! |
