WELCOME TO THE speakers' CORNER!!
This page is intended to be a resource page for all speakers participating in the program, with helpful tips on how to keep the kids engaged, and summarize the logistics for the virtual sessions.
Thank you so much for volunteering to be a part of our exciting program. We are thrilled to be celebrating and honoring this year's Black History Month with each of you and are very excited to be sharing you with our local community.
The Fairmont AAPAC Black History Month STEM Career Week is a multi-day hybrid virtual and in-person program, in observation of Black History Month, intended to highlight and celebrate the successes of black professionals throughout the nation.
One of the goals of this event is to expose students at our school to the breadth of career paths, and to encourage and inspire them to consider pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields.
This will be an unique opportunity for students to hear anecdotes, get advice, and gain perspectives about career options, opportunities, challenges and potential barriers, and keys to success from African American professionals working in STEM careers.

Interactions during the virtual sessions
We encourage all speakers to review the profiles of other speakers who will be participating on the same day as them.
Interactions between speakers, students, teachers and other school staff is strongly encouraged throughout the session. Please note, however, that we have asked the students to remain muted during the speaker introductions.

classroom host
Each 1 hour session will have a designated "CLASSROOM HOST" who will play a key role in keeping the sessions dynamic and interactive.
- The host welcomes the guests, sets the tone of the session, decides when the class needs a stretch break, and moderates the Q&A Period.
- During the Q&A, the host will select the order in which classroom(s) will get to pose questions to guests and will be tasked with keeping students engaged.
- Once the schedule gets finalized, we will let the speakers know in advance which classroom and teacher will be the host of their session
aapac virtual host
An AAPAC parent will be attending each session as a "virtual host" to facilitate and help manage the zoom (e.g. muting classrooms during sessions)
